Tatsuhiro Sakamoto was born on 22 October 1996 in Tokyo, Japan. He came through Montedio Yamagata's youth football and signed with Cerezo Osaka in January 2020. After loan and permanent moves between Cerezo and Belgian side KV Oostende, he joined English Championship side Coventry City in July 2023.
His Coventry career has been highly productive. The 2023–24 Championship season brought 29 league matches with 7 goals and 2 assists; 2024–25 produced 44 league matches with 4 goals and 6 assists; and 2025–26 has been even better with 35 league matches, 7 goals and 3 assists, plus an EFL Cup match and an FA Cup match.
A 170cm two-footed right-sided attacking midfielder with elite acceleration, dribbling and the goal-scoring instinct of a creator who can finish, Sakamoto has been a consistent Championship producer for three seasons. He has been a Japan senior call-up across his Coventry years and is a candidate for the wider 2026 FIFA World Cup squad as a wide attacking option.
