Antoine Mendy was born on 27 May 2004 in Marseille, France, to Senegalese roots. He developed in the south of France and emerged at Nice, where his size and composure made him an interesting defensive prospect.
At Nice he moved from academy promise into senior football, learning in a club that has often trusted young defenders while maintaining European ambitions. His minutes have come in stages, but he has shown enough athletic and technical security to remain in the first-team picture.
By the 2026 cycle he was still closely associated with Nice and the Ligue 1 environment. He offers Senegal a younger defensive option at a time when long-serving centre-backs and full-backs are being supplemented by a new group.
For Senegal he was one of the fresh faces called by Pape Thiaw during World Cup qualifying. His selection alongside players such as Assane Diao and El Hadji Malick Diouf showed the federation's intention to secure dual-national talent early.
Standing around 1.87 m, Mendy is a right-footed defender who can play right-back or centre-back. His profile is more measured than flamboyant, recalling a young Benjamin Pavard in the sense of being a composed defensive full-back who may grow into a central role.
