Christian Eriksen was born on 14 February 1992 in Middelfart, Denmark. He developed through the youth ranks at local club Middelfart G&BK and Odense BK before moving to Ajax in 2008, turning professional in January 2010. At Ajax he won three consecutive Eredivisie titles and the KNVB Cup, making 162 appearances and scoring 32 goals before earning a £11 million move to Tottenham Hotspur in 2013.
At Spurs, Eriksen established himself as one of the Premier League's most reliable creative forces across six-and-a-half seasons, registering 69 goals and 89 assists in 305 appearances. He was named the club's Player of the Season twice, voted into the 2017–18 PFA Team of the Year, and reached the 2019 UEFA Champions League final. A move to Inter Milan followed in 2020, where he contributed to a Serie A title in the 2020–21 season.
His career took a dramatic turn during UEFA Euro 2020 on 12 June 2021, when he suffered a cardiac arrest on the pitch during Denmark's opening group match. After successful resuscitation and surgery to fit an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator, he returned to football with Brentford in January 2022 before joining Manchester United that summer. At United he won an EFL Cup in 2022–23.
A composed, technically gifted playmaker who operates between the lines, Eriksen is equally dangerous from set pieces and open play. He made his senior debut for Denmark in 2010 and has accumulated over 140 caps, making him his country's record appearance holder.
