Cristian Roldan was born on 3 June 1995 in Modesto, California, USA, of Salvadoran descent. He came through the college system at the University of Washington and joined Seattle Sounders FC in 2015, beginning a long association with one of MLS's most successful clubs that would span more than a decade and yield multiple championship medals.
At Seattle, Roldan became one of the most dependable and well-rounded central midfielders in MLS history. An industrious two-way midfielder with good passing ability, positional intelligence and a relentless work ethic, he was central to the Sounders' success across multiple MLS Cup campaigns. He won MLS Cup titles with Seattle, including the 2019 and 2023 championships, and also contributed to the club's historic CONCACAF Champions League victory in 2022 — the first by an MLS club in over three decades.
His consistency and longevity at Seattle have made him one of the most respected players in the league's history. By 2025-26 he had accumulated significant experience and remained a valuable squad option for the Sounders as they continued competing at the top of the Western Conference.
For the United States, Roldan debuted in 2016 and has been a regular member of the national team pool. He has been part of USMNT squads through the 2021 Gold Cup, the 2022 World Cup and beyond, bringing experience and defensive solidity to a midfield that has become increasingly creative and technically ambitious.
Standing 1.78 m, Roldan is a right-footed central midfielder whose primary contributions are press-resistance, defensive work and ball circulation. His consistency and professionalism over a long MLS career have been exemplary, and he remains a reliable option for USMNT coaches who need experienced midfield cover.
