Cho Gue-sung was born on 25 January 1998 in Ansan, South Korea. After developing through Gwangju University and FC Anyang, he took an unusual route to prominence, becoming a late-blooming striker whose height, movement and finishing improved sharply in his early twenties.
Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors signed him in 2020, and a military spell with Gimcheon Sangmu helped accelerate his development. He returned stronger, won the 2022 K League 1 top scorer award and became one of the most marketable Korean players after his breakout at the 2022 World Cup.
In 2023 Cho moved to FC Midtjylland in Denmark. As of May 2026 he remains with Midtjylland, where he has played domestic and European matches and continued to refine his hold-up play, pressing and penalty-box timing in a more physical European league.
For South Korea he debuted in 2021 and became internationally known at the 2022 World Cup, scoring two headed goals against Ghana. He has remained in the national-team pool through the 2023 AFC Asian Cup and 2026 qualifying campaign, competing with Oh Hyeon-gyu and other forwards for the centre-forward role.
Standing around 1.88 m, Cho is a right-footed striker whose aerial timing, near-post movement and improving link play define his game. His profile draws comparison with Kim Shin-wook for height and heading threat, though Cho is more mobile and cleaner in combination play.
