Evan Joe Ferguson was born on 19 October 2004 in Bettystown, County Meath, Republic of Ireland, and is the son of former professional footballer Barry Ferguson. He started his senior career at Bohemians in 2019, becoming the club's youngest-ever player at just 14 in a friendly against Chelsea.
In January 2021 Brighton & Hove Albion signed him from Bohemians ahead of competition from Liverpool. He made his Premier League debut in February 2022 and broke through in 2022-23, scoring 10 goals in 25 appearances and being named Brighton's Young Player of the Season. In September 2023 he scored a Premier League hat-trick against Newcastle United at the age of 18, becoming only the fourth player to do so at that age in the league's history. Alan Shearer praised his all-round game.
A January 2025 loan to West Ham was unproductive, and in July 2025 he was loaned to Roma with a reported €40 million purchase option. He scored his first Roma goal in November 2025, becoming the first Irish scorer in Serie A since Liam Brady.
For the Republic of Ireland he was made the country's youngest senior captain at 18 in 2023 and has earned around 26 caps with eight goals, winning the FAI Young International Player of the Year award in 2022 and 2023.
A 1.88 m centre-forward, Ferguson combines size, two-footed finishing, headers, pace and intuition, and is regarded as a generational Irish striker.
