Gabriel Alejandro Villamíl Cortez was born on 28 June 2001 in Tarija, Bolivia. He came through the Bolivian youth pathway as a central midfielder with good size and clean technique, and his early breakthrough at Bolívar placed him in one of the country's most visible development environments.
At Bolívar he grew into a midfielder trusted in domestic league matches and continental competition. The club's possession demands helped him become more than a destroyer: he learned to receive under pressure, move the ball forward and arrive in the box at the right time. That rounded profile made him attractive outside Bolivia.
As of May 2026 he is listed with LDU Quito in Ecuador. The move to LDU is significant because it places him in a club accustomed to international football, altitude management and title pressure, all of which are close to the conditions Bolivia often face in La Paz and El Alto.
For Bolivia he debuted in September 2021 in a World Cup qualifier against Argentina and has remained in the senior picture through Copa América and the 2026 qualifying cycle. He represents the generation asked to make Bolivia more competitive away from home while preserving the traditional strength at altitude.
Around 1.80 m, Villamíl is a right-footed central midfielder who can play as an eight or a more conservative connector. His best qualities are balance, timing of support runs and secure passing, which make him comparable to a less explosive but more positionally disciplined version of Moisés Caicedo in the Ecuadorian league context.
