Ime Okon was born on 20 February 2004 in Johannesburg, South Africa, to a South African mother and Nigerian father. He attended Florida Park High School and developed through SuperSport United, where his size and composure made him one of the most watched young defenders in the country.
At SuperSport he broke into the senior side as a teenager and quickly became a regular centre-back. His calmness in possession, recovery speed and dual-national background led to attention from both South African supporters and scouts abroad, particularly as Bafana Bafana searched for a new defensive generation.
In 2025 he joined Hannover 96 in Germany, stepping into the 2. Bundesliga. By 2026 he has gained regular minutes in a demanding European league, adding aerial duels, tempo and positional discipline to the raw talent first seen in the PSL.
For South Africa he debuted in 2025 and quickly entered Hugo Broos' plans for the 2026 World Cup. Friendly matches and COSAFA involvement helped integrate him, and his partnership possibilities with Khulumani Ndamane or Siyabonga Ngezana became a major talking point.
Standing around 1.87 m, Okon is a right-footed centre-back with a modern profile: tall, mobile, comfortable enough on the ball and aggressive when stepping out. His blend of athleticism and composure invites comparison with a young Dayot Upamecano, though he is still developing the same level of decision-making.
