Michael Heinz Golding was born on 23 May 2006 in Kingston, England. He began his footballing journey at the AFC Wimbledon academy before Chelsea came calling in 2018, when he was just twelve years old. He worked his way through Chelsea's youth ranks and signed his first professional contract in July 2023, soon earning the chance to train alongside the first-team squad.
Golding made his senior debut on 6 January 2024, coming on against Preston North End at Stamford Bridge in the FA Cup — a notable milestone for a player still in his teens. Later that year he added the 2024 U18 Pinatar Super Cup to his honours with England's under-18 side.
A technically assured, progressive midfielder, Golding is comfortable carrying the ball forward and distributing under pressure. He moved to EFL Championship club Leicester City on 7 July 2024, where the club will be looking to him to develop into a regular contributor at senior level.
Internationally, Golding has represented England at under-16, under-17 and under-18 level, and notably captained the side at the 2023 UEFA European Under-17 Championship. He was also included in England's squad for the 2023 FIFA U-17 World Cup. Earlier in his career, in September 2021, he made two appearances for the Republic of Ireland under-16 team, scoring in a 6–0 win over Malta, and remains eligible to represent Ireland through family ties.
