Mattias Svanberg was born on 5 January 1999 in Malmö, Sweden, and came through Malmö FF's youth ranks. He won the Allsvenskan in 2016 and 2017 as a youth squad member before signing with Bologna in summer 2018 for around €5 million. After four full Serie A seasons he moved to VfL Wolfsburg in summer 2022 for around €9 million.
His Wolfsburg career has produced consistent Bundesliga output across multiple seasons. He played 25 league matches in 2023–24 with a goal and 3 assists, then 22 league matches with 3 goals and an assist in both 2024–25 and 2025–26 — settled output as a creative central midfielder.
For Sweden, Svanberg has been a regular over multiple Euro and World Cup qualifying campaigns, including 4 World Cup qualifying matches in 2024 and 6 Euro qualifying matches in 2023.
A 185cm two-footed central midfielder with vision, physical presence and goal-scoring instinct from arriving in the box, Svanberg is one of Sweden's senior midfielders heading into the 2026 FIFA World Cup. He provides depth in central areas alongside more attacking options like Bergvall and Ayari.
