Serge David Gnabry was born on 14 July 1995 in Stuttgart to an Ivorian father and a German mother, and originally pursued sprinting before choosing football and joining VfB Stuttgart's academy. At 16 he signed for Arsenal for around £100,000 in 2011 and made his senior debut in 2012, but a 2014-15 knee injury and limited opportunities — including a difficult 2015-16 loan at West Bromwich Albion under Tony Pulis — slowed his progress.
After a strong 2016-17 spell at Werder Bremen (11 goals in 27 league games) Bayern Munich signed him in summer 2017 and immediately loaned him to Hoffenheim, where he scored 10 goals in 22 appearances. Returning to Bayern, he became a key attacker in the 2019-20 squad that won the continental treble, scoring 23 goals across all competitions, and has since won multiple Bundesliga titles. He was Bayern's Player of the Season in 2018-19 and recently extended his contract through 2028, wearing the number 7.
For Germany, Gnabry made his senior debut in November 2016 and famously scored a hat-trick on debut in an 8-0 win over San Marino. He has earned around 60 caps with more than 25 goals, was joint top scorer at the 2016 Olympics (silver medal), and played at Euro 2020, the 2022 World Cup and Euro 2024.
A 1.76 m two-footed wide forward / attacking midfielder, Gnabry combines acceleration, dribbling and clinical finishing — and is one of the most decorated German attackers of his generation.
