Raphaël Adelino José Guerreiro was born on 22 December 1993 in Le Blanc-Mesnil, France, to a Portuguese father and a French mother, and developed in French youth football before joining Caen's reserve team in 2010. He was named to the Ligue 2 Team of the Year after his first senior season, then moved to Lorient in 2013, where over three Ligue 1 seasons he scored 10 goals in 102 matches.
In 2016 Borussia Dortmund signed him, and over seven seasons he made 162 league matches with 30 goals, winning two DFB-Pokal titles and the 2019 DFL-Supercup. He joined Bayern Munich on a free transfer in 2023 and has won consecutive Bundesliga titles (2023-24 finishing as runner-up before 2024-25 and 2025-26 wins) plus DFL Supercup trophies.
For Portugal he has earned around 65 caps with four goals, was a key part of the side that won UEFA Euro 2016 — being named to the Team of the Tournament — and has played at multiple World Cups and European Championships.
Standing just 1.70 m, Guerreiro is a left-footed left-back who can also play as a left midfielder, and is celebrated for his technique, dribbling, set-piece deliveries and surprising goal contributions from defence — a long-time underrated all-rounder for two of Europe's biggest clubs.
