Teboho Mokoena was born on 24 January 1997 in Bethlehem, Free State. He came through the Harmony Sports Academy and then the SuperSport United pathway, where his range of passing, set-piece striking and maturity in central midfield stood out early.
At SuperSport United he developed into one of the best midfielders in the PSL, winning domestic honours and becoming a regular in continental fixtures. His long shooting and ability to dictate tempo from deeper zones made him a natural target for Mamelodi Sundowns, who signed him in 2022.
At Sundowns he has been part of the dominant domestic machine, winning league titles and playing major CAF Champions League matches. By 2026 he is the central midfield reference point of the club, often paired with more mobile runners while he controls the rhythm and supplies set pieces.
For South Africa he became a regular under Hugo Broos and was central to the 2023 AFCON bronze-medal run. He scored a spectacular free kick against Morocco in the round of sixteen and remained a key player through the 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign, reaching the 50-cap mark before the tournament cycle closed.
Standing around 1.76 m, Mokoena is a right-footed central midfielder whose game is built on passing range, shooting from distance and tactical balance. In South African terms he recalls a more forceful Dean Furman, while his set-piece threat and tempo control can evoke a lighter version of Granit Xhaka.
