Kosuke Nakamura was born on 27 February 1995 in Tokyo. He came through Kashiwa Reysol's youth ranks and won the Emperor's Cup in 2012 and the J.League Cup in 2013 with the senior side. After multiple loan moves and Kashiwa Reysol's J2 title in 2019, he moved to Portimonense in Portugal in January 2021.
His Portimonense career was outstanding. The 2022 Primeira Liga season produced 30 league appearances; 2023 brought 20 Primeira Liga apps and 2 senior friendly appearances with Japan; 2024 produced 3 Segunda Liga matches as Portimonense was relegated.
In January 2026 Nakamura returned to Japan with Cerezo Osaka.
A 185cm goalkeeper with elite shot-stopping range, calm distribution and the experience of a long Portuguese career, Nakamura is one of Japan's most experienced multi-league goalkeepers. He is in the wider 2026 FIFA World Cup squad picture as a senior goalkeeper depth option.
