Sam Greenwood is an English attacker born on 26 January 2002 in Sunderland. He came through the academies of Sunderland and Arsenal before joining Leeds United in August 2020 for a reported fee of £1.5 million. He made his senior debut for Leeds in January 2021 and gradually worked his way into first-team consideration over the following seasons.
One of his more notable contributions at Leeds came on the final day of the 2021–22 Premier League season, when he started at Brentford and helped the club secure a 2–1 win that kept them in the top flight. He also scored his first Premier League goal in a 4–3 victory over Bournemouth in November 2022.
Greenwood spent the 2023–24 season on loan at Middlesbrough, where he scored in the Tees–Wear derby against Sunderland in a 4–0 away win — a result that carried extra significance given his hometown connections. He is noted for his ability from dead-ball situations and operates as an attacking midfielder or forward.
At international level, Greenwood represented England across multiple youth age groups, scoring in every group game at the 2019 UEFA European Under-17 Championship. He made a single appearance for the England Under-21s in November 2021, scoring as a substitute in a 3–2 defeat to Georgia.
Greenwood joined Preston North End on a one-year loan in July 2024, before signing a three-year deal with Polish Ekstraklasa club Pogoń Szczecin in August 2025, in a transfer reported to be the most expensive in the Polish club's history.
