Nordi Mukiele was born on 1 November 1997 in Montreuil, France, and came through the Paris-region football scene before developing at Laval. Montpellier gave him his Ligue 1 platform, where his combination of size, speed and defensive versatility quickly attracted attention from clubs seeking modern back-line athletes.
RB Leipzig signed him in 2018, and in Germany he became a useful hybrid defender: right-back, right centre-back or wing-back depending on the shape. He played Champions League football, learned aggressive pressing structures and earned a move to Paris Saint-Germain in 2022. A later loan to Bayer Leverkusen and subsequent moves kept him in elite European environments.
By May 2026 Mukiele is listed as a Sunderland defender in the Premier League. For Sunderland he represents experience from PSG, Leipzig and Bundesliga-level football, with the capacity to defend wide spaces, cover inside and add physical power to the back line.
For France he made his senior debut in 2021, though the national team's depth at right-back and centre-back has limited his caps. Even without a large international total, being called into that French group reflects the level his club performances reached at Leipzig and PSG.
Standing around 1.87 m, Mukiele is a right-footed defender whose athleticism allows him to play as a full-back, wing-back or right-sided centre-back. His style is often compared with Benjamin Pavard's versatility, but Mukiele is more explosive in open grass and more naturally suited to covering transition runs.
