Đorđe Petrović was born on 8 October 1999 in Serbia and came through the FK Čukarički academy from 2014, eventually breaking into the first team in 2019 after a loan spell at FK IMT. He made 78 league appearances for Čukarički before moving to Major League Soccer side New England Revolution in April 2022.
His time in MLS quickly caught attention. By April 2023 he had become the fastest player in MLS history to record five penalty saves, was named to the 2023 MLS All-Star team, and had led the league with 160 saves since his debut. Those performances attracted significant interest from European clubs, and in August 2023 he joined Chelsea on a seven-year contract for a reported fee of around £12.5 million plus add-ons. During the 2024–25 season he was loaned to Ligue 1 side Strasbourg, where he was named the club's Player of the Season as they finished seventh and qualified for the UEFA Conference League.
Known for his quick reflexes, shot-stopping ability, and composure from the penalty spot, Petrović is regarded as a modern, technically assured goalkeeper. In July 2025 he signed a five-year contract with Premier League club Bournemouth, where he is expected to be first-choice goalkeeper.
On the international stage, Petrović made his senior debut for Serbia in January 2021 in a 0–0 draw against the Dominican Republic. He was included in Serbia's squad for UEFA Euro 2024 and has since featured in the 2024–25 UEFA Nations League, keeping a clean sheet against Denmark.
