Ahmed Basil is an Iraqi goalkeeper born in Baghdad in 1996. After early spells with Al-Taji, Al-Karkh and Al-Oloom wal-Technologia, he joined Al-Shorta in 2014 and grew into the club's long-serving first-choice goalkeeper and captain. With Al-Shorta he won several Iraq Stars League titles, the Iraq FA Cup and Iraqi Super Cup, and also appeared in AFC Champions League matches. Basil represented Iraq at under-20 and under-23 levels, made his senior debut in 2022, and played at the 2023 AFC Asian Cup against Vietnam.
