Teun Koopmeiners was born on 28 February 1998 in Castricum, Netherlands. He came through AZ Alkmaar's academy from 2009 and made his senior debut in 2017, going on to make 116 appearances and score 35 goals for AZ while captaining the side at a relatively young age.
In August 2021 Atalanta signed him for around €12 million. Over three seasons in Bergamo he scored 26 goals across 97 matches — including a hat-trick in a 3-1 win over Torino in September 2022 — and was a starter in the 2024 UEFA Europa League final win over Bayer Leverkusen, the club's first major European trophy.
In August 2024 Juventus signed him on a five-year deal worth around €51.3 million plus bonuses, the kind of investment Juventus had not made in a midfielder for some years.
For the Netherlands he made his senior debut in 2020, played at the 2022 World Cup — providing a clever free-kick assist for Wout Weghorst against Argentina in the quarter-final — and was selected for Euro 2024 before withdrawing through injury.
A 1.85 m central midfielder who can also play centre-back, Koopmeiners combines leadership, strong long-range shooting from open play and set pieces, two-footed passing and a willingness to defend front-foot. The hope at Juventus was that he could be the box-arriving 8 the club has needed since the heyday of Arturo Vidal.
