Alexander Nübel was born on 30 September 1996 in Paderborn, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. He came through the youth ranks at Westfalia Lotte and Paderborn before joining Schalke 04's academy, where he developed into one of the Bundesliga's most promising young goalkeepers and eventually captained the first team from 2019 onwards.
In summer 2020 Bayern Munich signed him on a free transfer, though his path to the starting role was immediately blocked by Manuel Neuer. Recognising that he needed regular playing time, he joined AS Monaco on a two-year loan from 2021 to 2023, playing consistently in Ligue 1 and in European competition under Philippe Clement and later Adi Hütter.
After returning briefly to Bayern's books, Stuttgart exercised a buy-out option and acquired him on a permanent basis in summer 2023. At the Swabians he quickly established himself as their undisputed first-choice goalkeeper, delivering assured performances that helped Stuttgart qualify for the UEFA Champions League in 2024-25 — the club's first European campaign in more than a decade.
For Germany he received his first senior cap in 2022 and has since risen in the national-team hierarchy as an alternative to Marc-André ter Stegen and Oliver Baumann. He was part of the squad for the home UEFA European Championship in 2024, where Germany reached the quarter-finals.
Standing 1.93 m, Nübel is a right-footed goalkeeper whose reading of crosses, command of his penalty area and growing comfort playing out from the back have made him one of the Bundesliga's most complete keepers. His shot-stopping reflexes and positioning draw comparisons to a younger Sven Ulreich, while his distribution range points toward the sweeper-keeper template Manuel Neuer defined for the national side.
