Born on 27 May 1994 in Agen, France, Aymeric Laporte is of Basque descent and was scouted by Athletic Bilbao as a teenager, joining their youth academy in 2010. He made his competitive debut in November 2012 under Marcelo Bielsa and went on to make 222 appearances for the club, earning a place in the La Liga Team of the Year in 2013–14 before earning a move to England.
In January 2018, Laporte joined Manchester City for a reported £57 million, making his debut the very next day. He became a key part of one of City's most decorated eras, contributing to five Premier League titles, two FA Cups, three EFL Cups, and the 2022–23 UEFA Champions League. Among the standout moments of his City career was his role in the 2018–19 domestic treble — the first in English men's football history — during which he made 51 appearances and scored five goals.
A composed, left-sided centre-back known for his passing and positional awareness, Laporte reads the game quietly but effectively. He left City for Al-Nassr in August 2023, spending two seasons in Saudi Arabia before returning to Athletic Bilbao in September 2025 on a three-year deal.
Born in France, Laporte received Spanish citizenship in 2021 and made his senior international debut for Spain in June of that year. He has earned over 25 caps, represented Spain at the 2022 FIFA World Cup and UEFA Euro 2024, and was a starting defender throughout Spain's run to the Euro 2024 title — the country's fourth European Championship.
