Emerson Palmieri dos Santos was born on 3 August 1994 in Santos, Brazil, and came through the youth academy of his hometown club Santos FC, making his senior debut for them in April 2011. After a loan spell at Palermo in Serie A, he joined Roma permanently in 2015, establishing himself as a reliable left-back in Italian football before a €20 million move to Chelsea in January 2018.
At Chelsea, Emerson collected an impressive set of honours, including the UEFA Europa League in 2019 and the UEFA Champions League in 2021. A brief loan to Lyon preceded his transfer to West Ham United in 2022, where he added the UEFA Europa Conference League title in 2023 — making him the first player ever to win all four major UEFA club competitions, along with the UEFA Super Cup.
Known for his stamina, athleticism, and ability to deliver accurate crosses from the left flank, Emerson is a technically sound attacking full-back equally comfortable operating as a wing-back or wide midfielder.
Born in Brazil, Emerson represented Brazil at under-17 level, winning the South American U-17 Championship in 2011, before switching allegiance to Italy following his Italian citizenship in 2017. He made his senior Italy debut in September 2018 and was part of the squad that won UEFA Euro 2020, starting the final against England at Wembley.
Emerson joined Ligue 1 side Marseille in September 2025 for a fee of €700,000, with the move offering him a fresh challenge in French football as he enters a new chapter of his career.
