Franco Israel Wibmer was born on 22 April 2000 in Nueva Helvecia. He began locally, joined Nacional's academy and soon became one of Uruguay's most promising young goalkeepers.
Juventus signed him in 2018 and placed him in an elite Italian development environment. Sporting CP then bought him in 2022, giving him a senior pathway in Portugal.
By May 2026 he was with Torino, continuing his Italian football education in Serie A. The move suited a goalkeeper formed partly in Italy and ready for weekly testing.
For Uruguay he moved from youth teams into the senior pool during the Muslera transition. He competes with Rochet, Mele and others for the long-term goalkeeper role.
Around 1.90 m and right-footed, Israel has reach, reflexes and a calm style. Uruguay view him a little like a young Fernando Muslera: a long-term ceiling rather than only current form.
