Kieran Tierney was born on 5 June 1997 in Douglas on the Isle of Man and grew up in Wishaw, Scotland. A lifelong Celtic supporter, he joined the club's academy at the age of seven and worked his way through the youth ranks before making his competitive senior debut in April 2015. He quickly established himself as first-choice left back, displacing the more experienced Emilio Izaguirre, and won the PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year award in three consecutive seasons — a feat not achieved since Craig Levein in 1986.
Tierney played a central role in Celtic's historic domestic double treble, making more than 50 appearances across the 2017–18 campaign alone. In August 2019, he joined Arsenal in the Premier League for a reported fee of £25 million. His highlights in north London include starting the 2020 FA Cup final — a 2–1 win over Chelsea — and becoming the first Scotsman to score for Arsenal in European competition since Willie Young in 1980, netting against Benfica in the 2021 Europa League.
A composed, attack-minded left back with strong defensive instincts, Tierney spent one season on loan at La Liga side Real Sociedad in 2023–24 before returning to Arsenal and making his 100th Premier League appearance in April 2025. He then rejoined Celtic on a five-year deal in June 2025, where he is expected to be a key figure as the club competes domestically and in Europe.
Tierney made his Scotland senior debut in March 2016 and has gone on to earn more than 50 caps, representing his country at UEFA Euro 2020 and UEFA Euro 2024.
