Luis Díaz was born on 13 January 1997 in Barrancas, La Guajira, Colombia. He began his professional career at Barranquilla before earning promotion to Atlético Junior's first team, where he developed into a consistent scorer and won domestic honours including the Categoría Primera A title. In 2019 he moved to Porto for a reported €7 million, and his three seasons in Portugal brought two Primeira Liga titles, a Taça de Portugal, and a Supertaça. His form in the first half of the 2021–22 season — 14 goals in 18 league games — prompted Liverpool to sign him in January 2022 for a reported €45 million.
At Liverpool, Díaz won the EFL Cup and FA Cup in his first season, being named man of the match in the FA Cup final against Chelsea. He went on to be part of the squad that claimed the 2024–25 Premier League title, finishing the campaign with a personal-best 17 league goals — making him only the second Colombian to win the Premier League.
A left winger known for his pace, direct dribbling, and high pressing, Díaz has since moved to Bayern Munich in the summer of 2025 for a reported fee of €75 million, where he is expected to be a key attacking threat in the Bundesliga.
On the international stage, Díaz made his senior debut for Colombia in 2018 and has earned over 60 caps. He was awarded the Golden Boot at the 2021 Copa América, where Colombia finished third, and was part of the squad that reached the final of the 2024 edition.
