Jakub Moder was born on 7 April 1999 in Szczecinek, Poland. He came through the youth system at Lech Poznań, one of Poland's top clubs, and broke into the first team at the age of eighteen, quickly establishing himself as a technically accomplished central midfielder capable of contributing both defensively and in attack.
In October 2020 Brighton & Hove Albion signed him for a fee of around £3.5 million — one of the most eye-catching Polish transfers of that era given the trajectory both club and player were on. He settled well under Graham Potter's possession-based system, showing the intelligence and composure to participate in Brighton's build-up play from deep positions.
His development at Brighton was unfortunately disrupted by a serious cruciate ligament injury in April 2022 that required surgery and kept him sidelined for more than a year. He made his comeback in the 2023-24 season, working to recapture the form that had made him one of Poland's most promising midfielders. Brighton's trust in his potential was demonstrated by continued involvement in the squad through his recovery.
For Poland he debuted in 2020 and has been a regular option in midfield for the national team, representing his country at UEFA Euro 2020 and in the 2022 World Cup qualifying campaign. His technical profile — a progressive passer with good range and the ability to receive under pressure — makes him an important option for building out from the back in manager Michał Probierz's system.
Standing around 1.89 m, Moder is a tall, technically refined central midfielder whose wingspan and range of passing belie an elegant style unusual for his physical profile. When fully fit he has the tools to develop into one of the more technically complete Polish midfielders of his generation.
