Oleksandr Zinchenko was born on 15 December 1996 in Radomyshl, Ukraine. He came through the youth ranks at Shakhtar Donetsk, where he captained the academy side, before relocating to Russia amid the conflict in Donbas. He signed his first professional contract with Ufa in February 2015, making his Russian Premier League debut that March.
In July 2016, Manchester City signed him for around £1.7 million. Originally an attacking midfielder, Zinchenko gradually converted into a left-back under Pep Guardiola — a positional shift that proved central to his career. During six years at City he won four Premier League titles, four EFL Cups and an FA Cup, and started the 2021 UEFA Champions League Final against Chelsea.
He joined Arsenal in July 2022 for £30 million, quickly establishing himself as a key figure in Mikel Arteta's system. He scored his first Premier League goal in a 4–2 win at Aston Villa in February 2023, helping Arsenal stay top of the table for much of that season. A smart, possession-oriented left-back who is comfortable carrying the ball into midfield, Zinchenko remains part of Arsenal's first-team plans.
On the international stage, Zinchenko made his senior debut for Ukraine in October 2015 and has since earned over 60 caps. He represented his country at UEFA Euro 2016, 2020 and 2024, and scored a memorable goal against Sweden in the Euro 2020 round of 16. He was named Ukrainian Footballer of the Year in 2019.
