The Los Angeles Galaxy were founded on 15 June 1994 as one of the ten charter franchises of Major League Soccer, beginning play in 1996. The Galaxy are owned by AEG (Anschutz Entertainment Group), the entertainment giant that has been the club's sole owner since inception. The Galaxy play at Dignity Health Sports Park (formerly Home Depot Center / StubHub Center) in Carson, California, with a capacity of 27,000.
The Galaxy are MLS's most successful club, with a record six MLS Cup titles (2002, 2005, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2024). The Bruce Arena era of the early 2010s — featuring David Beckham, Landon Donovan (US national-team legend) and Robbie Keane — produced three MLS Cups in four years (2011, 2012, 2014) and made the Galaxy MLS's first true global brand. Beckham's 2007 transfer from Real Madrid to LA Galaxy was the most consequential move in MLS history, transforming the league's worldwide profile.
Beyond MLS, the Galaxy hold four Supporters' Shields, two U.S. Open Cups, and the 2000 CONCACAF Champions Cup — the only MLS club to win the continental title in the modern era. Subsequent eras saw stars like Zlatan Ibrahimović (2018-2019), Steven Gerrard (2015-2016) and Javier "Chicharito" Hernández carry the brand. The 2024 MLS Cup victory under Greg Vanney ended a decade-long drought, with Riqui Puig, Joseph Paintsil and Gabriel Pec leading the modern incarnation. The Galaxy's defining rivalry with crosstown LAFC — the El Tráfico — emerged as MLS expanded into Los Angeles in 2018 and is now MLS's most-watched local fixture.
