David Raum was born on 22 April 1998 in Regensburg, Bavaria, Germany. He came through the youth academy at Jahn Regensburg, his hometown club, before joining TSG 1899 Hoffenheim as a teenager. He made his senior debut for Hoffenheim's first team and became one of the most attack-minded left-backs in the Bundesliga, particularly during the 2021-22 season when his double-digit assist tally attracted widespread attention.
In summer 2022 RB Leipzig signed him for around €26 million, recognising his profile as a modern wing-back who combines overlapping delivery with pressing intensity. At Leipzig under managers Marco Rose and Marco Baroni he has continued as the team's primary left-back option, featuring in the UEFA Champions League and Europa League and delivering assists as a central part of their attacking play out wide.
He has settled as a consistent and reliable presence on the left side of Leipzig's defence, contributing to the club's regular qualification for European competition. His crossing from wide positions, ability to combine with the forwards in transition and defensive tracking ability have made him a senior fixture in the Leipzig squad.
For Germany he debuted in 2021 under Hansi Flick and was part of the squads for the 2022 World Cup and the home UEFA European Championship in 2024. He provides Germany with a genuine attacking option at left-back, where his overlapping runs and delivery from the byline create chances for the forwards.
Standing 1.80 m, Raum is a left-footed full-back whose combination of attacking instinct, crossing accuracy and press participation make him one of the Bundesliga's prototypical modern attacking left-backs. His assist output and directness from wide positions draw comparisons with a German variant of Andrew Robertson at his high-assist best.
