Nicolas Seiwald was born on 4 May 2001 in Wörgl, Tyrol, Austria. He came through the youth system at Red Bull Salzburg, one of Austria's premier academies, and progressed to the first team where he established himself as a highly rated central midfielder, standing out in both Austrian domestic football and the UEFA Champions League.
Seiwald's performances for Salzburg attracted significant attention from larger European clubs, and in the summer of 2023 RB Leipzig signed him for a substantial fee. At Leipzig he joined a midfield group of considerable quality and began integrating himself into the Bundesliga and European competition at the highest level, bringing his press-oriented game and ball-carrying capacity to a club with even greater ambitions.
His development at Leipzig has been part of the broader Red Bull talent pipeline that has proved so productive for Austrian football, with players like Xaver Schlager, Marcel Sabitzer and Konrad Laimer coming through the same system. Seiwald represents the next tier of players from that network to reach the peak of club football.
For the Austrian national team, Seiwald has emerged as one of the bright prospects under Ralf Rangnick. He featured in the Euro 2024 squad as Austria reached the round of sixteen, benefiting from the competitive environment Rangnick has created in Austrian football. His energy, pressing intensity and technical quality fit naturally into Rangnick's high-line, high-press system.
Standing around 1.83 m, Seiwald is a right-footed central midfielder whose combination of pressing intelligence, ball recovery and ability to play forward passes quickly in tight spaces mark him as a modern, technically refined midfielder. He is one of the most promising Austrian midfielders of his generation.
