Yoya Fujii was born on 26 December 2000 in Aichi. He came through Nagoya Grampus' youth ranks and was a senior centre-back in their 2023 J1 campaign (34 league matches with 2 goals and 3 assists, plus an Emperor's Cup goal). With Nagoya he won the J.League Cup in 2021.
In January 2024 he moved to Belgium with KV Kortrijk. After 2 Belgian Pro League seasons (10 league matches in 2023, 22 league matches in 2024), Nagoya signed him back in August 2025 on a return move. The 2025 season has produced 11 J1 League matches with an assist after his return.
A 185cm two-footed centre-back with elite aerial presence, ball-playing security and the goal-scoring instinct from set pieces, Fujii has been a Japan call-up since 2024 and is one of Nagoya's senior central defenders. He is a candidate for the wider 2026 FIFA World Cup squad as a senior CB option.
