Al-Nassr Football Club was founded in 1955 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, established by a group of Saudi sport enthusiasts. The club's yellow-and-blue colours and golden emblem distinguish it from Riyadh rivals Al-Hilal. Al-Nassr play at Al-Awwal Park, with a capacity of 25,000 — though for major matches the club often uses larger Riyadh venues.
Al-Nassr is one of Saudi football's "Big Four" clubs, with nine Saudi Pro League titles. The Majed Abdullah era of the 1980s — Saudi Arabia's all-time greatest player and longest-serving captain — defined the club's domestic golden age, with multiple league titles and a 1995 Asian Super Cup. Subsequent generations under Saudi national-team stars maintained the club's competitive position.
The world's attention turned to Al-Nassr in January 2023, when the club signed Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United on a free transfer in what became the most-discussed transfer of the modern era. Ronaldo's arrival marked a turning point for Saudi football's global ambitions; subsequent signings of Sadio Mané, Otávio, Marcelo Brozović, and Aymeric Laporte transformed Al-Nassr into one of football's most-watched clubs. Manager Stefano Pioli took charge in 2024-25. Despite the marquee additions, Al-Nassr have not yet reclaimed the Saudi Pro League title in the post-Ronaldo era, though the global media coverage has been transformative. The Riyadh Derby against Al-Hilal — now featuring Cristiano Ronaldo against Neymar — is football's most-watched local derby globally.
