Anthony Gordon was born on 24 February 2001 in Liverpool, England. He came through the academy of Everton — the club his family has long supported — and made his senior debut in 2020, gradually developing into a dynamic left-sided winger under successive Goodison Park managers. His raw pace, direct running and ability to carry the ball under pressure made him one of the most coveted young attackers in the Premier League.
In January 2023 Newcastle United signed him for a fee reportedly around £45 million, ending a protracted transfer saga that had included interest from Chelsea the previous summer. The move to St James' Park proved transformative: under Eddie Howe he flourished as a versatile attacker comfortable on the left wing, across the front three or even as a left wing-back, combining relentless pressing with consistent end product.
At Newcastle he became a key figure in the rebuild of one of England's biggest clubs, contributing goals and assists in the Premier League and helping the side maintain their top-half ambitions through 2024-25. He missed a significant spell with injury in 2024 but returned to nail down a starting role and was recognised as one of the most improved young attackers in the division.
For England he debuted in November 2023 under Gareth Southgate and quickly became a regular in the squad. He was part of the England side that reached the UEFA Euro 2024 final in Germany — the country's second consecutive Euro final appearance — before losing to Spain. He has continued through the 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign under Thomas Tuchel.
Standing approximately 1.75 m, Gordon is a left-footed winger whose combination of acceleration, close control and pressing intensity draw comparisons with a more direct version of Adam Johnson and, in his Newcastle role, a contemporary of the left-sided attackers England have developed across the 2020s. He is at his most dangerous running at defenders in the final third with the ball at his left foot.
