Dominic Solanke was born on 14 September 1997 in Reading, Berkshire, England. He came through the Chelsea academy — one of the most talent-dense systems in English football — before a 2017 loan to Liverpool led to a permanent transfer that same summer for a nominal fee. At Anfield he won the 2017-18 FIFA Club World Cup with a senior squad appearance and earned a senior England cap, but regular first-team minutes were scarce.
In January 2019 Bournemouth paid approximately £19 million to bring him to the south coast, and the Cherries' system under various managers finally unlocked his potential. After a difficult initial period, Solanke became the focal point of Bournemouth's Premier League attack following their 2022 promotion, recording 19 goals in the 2023-24 season and establishing himself as one of the division's most productive strikers.
In the summer of 2024 Tottenham Hotspur signed him for a fee reported at around £65 million, making him one of the most expensive English strikers in transfer history. His first season in north London brought the pressure that comes with any high-profile move, and he worked through an injury-affected campaign to contribute goals and hold-up play to Ange Postecoglou's and subsequently Thomas Frank's systems.
For England he debuted in 2017 under Gareth Southgate and made a return to the squad for Euro 2024 as cover for Harry Kane, appearing in a supporting capacity. He has continued to be called upon through the 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign under Thomas Tuchel as a depth forward option.
Standing 1.86 m, Solanke is a right-footed centre-forward whose combination of physical presence, intelligent movement off the ball and range of finishing — low drives and headers — draw comparisons with a more mobile Peter Crouch and, in his Bournemouth prime, a lower-block-breaker in the mould of Darius Vassell at his most effective.
