Micky van de Ven was born on 19 April 2001 in Wormer, Netherlands, and came through FC Volendam's youth ranks. He joined VfL Wolfsburg in summer 2021 and developed into one of the Bundesliga's most exciting young centre-backs, with elite recovery pace for a 193cm defender. In August 2023 Tottenham signed him for around €40 million.
His Tottenham career has been transformative for the club's defensive identity. After 19 Premier League appearances in his debut 2023–24 season and 19 league matches in 2024–25, he was a major part of Spurs' UEFA Europa League triumph in 2024–25 — Tottenham's first major European trophy in modern memory. He featured in 11 Europa League matches across that campaign.
The 2025–26 season has produced his best output yet: 32 Premier League matches with 4 goals and an assist, plus 8 UEFA Champions League appearances with 2 goals. His attacking contribution from defence has become a defining feature of his game.
A 193cm two-footed centre-back with elite recovery pace, ball-playing ability and the leadership presence of a senior squad member, Van de Ven has been a Netherlands regular since 2024. He featured at the 2024 European Championship and contributed a goal and an assist in 2026 World Cup qualifying. Alongside Van Dijk and De Ligt, he is one of the most exciting centre-backs the Oranje have heading into the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
