Rodrigo Bentancur Colman was born on 25 June 1997 in Nueva Helvecia. He was formed at Boca Juniors, where midfielders are tested by pressure, rivalry and the courage to receive the ball.
Juventus signed him in 2017, and he won Serie A titles while learning to play as a six, an eight and a more conservative interior. That tactical education shaped his calm style.
Tottenham Hotspur signed him in January 2022. Injuries have interrupted him, but when fit he remains one of Spurs' most elegant midfield connectors, able to receive under pressure and link phases.
For Uruguay he debuted in 2017 and played at the 2018 and 2022 World Cups, the 2024 Copa América and the 2026 qualifying cycle. He bridges the Suárez-Cavani generation and the Valverde-Ugarte era.
Around 1.87 m and right-footed, Bentancur is graceful, press-resistant and tactically subtle. He evokes a restrained Fernando Redondo or a taller Sergio Busquets, with more Uruguayan duel work.
