Axel Disasi was born on 11 March 1998 in Gonesse, Val-d'Oise, and came through the academy system at Paris FC before moving to Reims in 2016. At Reims he established himself as a dependable centre-back, contributing to the club's Ligue 2 title and promotion to Ligue 1 in the 2017–18 season across 53 appearances.
His performances earned him a €13 million move to Monaco in August 2020, where he went on to make 129 appearances in all competitions. He made an immediate impression, scoring on his debut against his former club Reims in a 2–2 draw. In August 2023, Chelsea signed him for £38.5 million on a six-year contract, and he marked his Premier League debut by scoring in a 1–1 draw against Liverpool on the opening day of the 2023–24 season. He also helped Chelsea win the UEFA Conference League in 2024–25.
A composed, physical centre-back who reads the game well and contributes in both penalty areas, Disasi is currently on loan at West Ham United from Chelsea for the 2025–26 season.
On the international stage, Disasi earned his first senior cap for France in November 2022, called up as a replacement for the injured Presnel Kimpembe at the FIFA World Cup. He made his debut in a 1–0 group-stage defeat to Tunisia and went on to feature in France's run to the final, where they lost to Argentina on penalties after a 3–3 draw. He has earned five caps for the French national side.
