Fábio Carvalho was born on 30 August 2002 in Torres Vedras, near Lisbon, Portugal. He began his footballing education at Benfica's youth academy at the age of nine before his family relocated to England when he was twelve. He joined Fulham's academy in 2014 and steadily worked his way through the age groups, signing his first professional contract in May 2020.
Carvalho made his senior debut for Fulham in May 2021, scoring his first professional goal against Southampton. The following season he became a consistent starter and helped Fulham win the EFL Championship in 2021–22, earning promotion back to the Premier League. His performances attracted the attention of Liverpool, who signed him on a five-year deal in the summer of 2022. He made an immediate impact, scoring a stoppage-time winner against Newcastle United in August 2022, and added an FA Community Shield medal to his collection that same year.
Subsequently, Carvalho spent the 2023–24 season on loan at RB Leipzig, where he won the DFL Supercup, before a mid-season loan move to Hull City. He then joined Brentford on a permanent basis in August 2024.
A nimble, attack-minded midfielder with sharp movement in tight spaces, Carvalho offers creativity and a direct goal threat from central areas. Liverpool retain his registration, with Brentford giving him regular first-team football to continue his development.
Having represented England at youth level from 2017, Carvalho switched allegiance and has been capped for the Portugal under-21 side since 2022.
