Gianluigi Donnarumma was born in 1999 in Castellammare di Stabia, a coastal town in the Campania region of southern Italy, about 30 kilometres southeast of Naples. He came through the youth ranks at AC Milan and made his senior debut for the club at just 16 years old, becoming one of the second-youngest goalkeepers to appear in Serie A. That early breakthrough immediately drew attention across European football.
Donnarumma established himself as Milan's first-choice goalkeeper across several seasons before making a high-profile move to Paris Saint-Germain in 2021. His reputation grew significantly during UEFA Euro 2020, where he was central to Italy's tournament victory and was named the Player of the Tournament — a rare individual honour for a goalkeeper at a major international competition.
As a shot-stopper, he is known for his imposing physical presence, strong positional sense, and composure in one-on-one situations. He has also demonstrated reliability from set pieces, using his size to command the penalty area effectively.
On the international stage, Donnarumma made his senior debut for the Italian national team at 17, going on to accumulate a substantial number of caps. He remains a key figure in the Azzurri's defensive setup.
Donnarumma now plays for Manchester City, where the club will look to him to bring his experience in high-stakes European football to their squad. At still only in his mid-twenties, he arrives with the expectation of competing at the top level of the Premier League and Champions League.
