Juan Musso was born on 6 May 1994 in San Nicolás de los Arroyos, Buenos Aires province, Argentina. He came through the youth setup of Racing Club de Avellaneda and made his senior debut before transferring to Genoa in Italy in summer 2018, where two strong Serie A seasons established him as one of the most promising goalkeepers in Italian football.
In summer 2021 Atalanta signed him for around €20 million, making him one of the more significant goalkeeper transfers in Serie A of that period. At Atalanta he became a first-choice goalkeeper in one of the league's most ambitious and tactically progressive sides, and won the 2023-24 UEFA Europa League — Atalanta's first major European trophy — playing a key role through the knockout rounds.
In summer 2024 Atlético Madrid signed him, bringing him to one of European football's most demanding goalkeeping environments. At Atlético he has worked within Diego Simeone's famously defensive structure, where the goalkeeper is required to command the penalty area, organise a compact back line and produce high-stakes saves at crucial moments.
For Argentina he debuted in 2018 and has been a senior squad member through the 2022 World Cup and beyond. With Emiliano Martínez as the undisputed first choice, Musso's role has been as the senior backup with the most European pedigree in the pool.
Standing 1.92 m, Musso is a right-footed goalkeeper whose presence, footwork, distribution and aerial command have made him a consistent Serie A and Champions League-level performer. He profiles as the most experienced European backup in Argentina's goalkeeping group and draws comparisons to a more outfield-influenced version of Hugo Lloris in his command of the area.
