Mason Mount was born on 10 January 1999 in Portsmouth, England, and joined Chelsea's academy at the age of six. Rather than moving straight into the first team, he was developed through loan spells — first at Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem, where he scored 14 goals in 39 appearances and won the club's Player of the Year award, and then at Championship side Derby County under manager Frank Lampard, where he contributed 11 goals across 42 matches and reached the play-off final.
Mount established himself as a key figure at Chelsea from the 2019–20 season onwards. His most defining moment came in the 2020–21 UEFA Champions League final, where he provided the assist for Kai Havertz's winning goal as Chelsea beat Manchester City 1–0 in Porto. That season he was voted Chelsea Player of the Year, an honour he retained the following year — becoming the first Chelsea player to win it in back-to-back seasons since Eden Hazard. He also added the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup to his trophy cabinet in 2021.
A box-to-box midfielder comfortable both defensively and in advanced positions, Mount reads the game well and contributes consistently in both goals and assists. In the 2021–22 Premier League season he became only the fifth Chelsea player to record double figures in both goals and assists in a single campaign.
Mount made his senior England debut in 2019 and went on to earn 36 caps, representing his country at UEFA Euro 2020 and the 2022 FIFA World Cup. In July 2023 he signed for Manchester United for an initial fee of £55 million, taking the iconic number seven shirt.
