Martin Albert Frédéric Terrier was born on 4 March 1997 in Armentières, France, and joined Lille's youth academy in 2004 before making his Ligue 1 debut against Bastia in October 2016. After limited Lille opportunities he was loaned to Strasbourg in 2017-18, gaining 25 senior appearances.
In January 2018 Lyon signed him for around €11 million. He scored 10 goals in 55 league matches over two seasons, including a Champions League goal against RB Leipzig. His most prolific run came at Stade Rennais (2020-2024), where he scored 46 goals in 111 league matches, finished joint-third in Ligue 1 scoring with 21 goals in 2021-22 and earned UNFP Team of the Year selection. A serious knee injury sidelined him for much of the 2022-23 season.
In July 2024 Bayer Leverkusen signed him for around €20 million on a five-year deal. Unfortunately he tore his Achilles tendon in January 2025 and missed the rest of the season.
For France he played at U20 and U21 levels, including the 2017 FIFA U20 World Cup, and scored seven goals in 13 U21 appearances.
A 1.81 m left-footed forward / left winger, Terrier combines pace, finishing on the move and clean technique on the cut-back — when fit, he is one of Ligue 1's most consistent attackers, and Leverkusen's investment was made with that profile in mind.
