Tyrell Malacia was born on 17 August 1999 in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, and came through the youth academy at his hometown club Feyenoord, which he joined at the age of nine. He made his professional debut in December 2017, appearing in a UEFA Champions League victory over Napoli, and went on to collect his first piece of silverware when Feyenoord won the KNVB Cup in 2018.
One of the defining moments of his time at Feyenoord came in May 2022, when he started in the UEFA Europa Conference League Final against Roma in Tirana. Although Feyenoord lost the match 1–0, Malacia was recognised for his performances throughout the competition and was named in the UEFA Europa Conference League Team of the Season.
A composed and energetic left-back, Malacia reads the game well and contributes effectively on both sides of the ball. Later in the summer of 2022 he signed for Manchester United, becoming manager Erik ten Hag's first acquisition, and claimed his first trophy with the club by featuring in the 2023 EFL Cup Final victory over Newcastle United. A lengthy knee injury kept him sidelined for much of the 2023–24 season, and he spent the second half of 2024–25 on loan at PSV Eindhoven, where he won the Eredivisie title.
On the international stage, Malacia represented the Netherlands at youth level from under-16 through to under-21, before earning his senior cap in September 2021 against Montenegro. He was included in the Netherlands squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
