Cole Palmer was born on 6 May 2002 in Wythenshawe, Manchester, and joined Manchester City's academy at the under-eight level in 2010. Despite concerns early in his development about his slight physique, he progressed through the age groups and captained the under-18s before earning his senior debut in September 2020. He contributed to City's 2022–23 treble-winning campaign, picking up Premier League, FA Cup, and UEFA Champions League winners' medals before leaving for Chelsea in August 2023 for a reported fee of £40 million.
His debut season at Chelsea was immediately eye-catching. He finished the 2023–24 Premier League campaign with 22 goals and 11 assists — the most goal involvements of any player in the division that season — and scored back-to-back hat-tricks against Manchester United and Everton. Those performances earned him the PFA Fans' Player of the Year and the Premier League Young Player of the Season awards. In 2024–25 he added two major honours, providing two assists in Chelsea's 2025 UEFA Conference League final win and then scoring twice in a 3–0 victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the FIFA Club World Cup final, where he was named man of the match and received the tournament's Golden Ball.
An inventive attacking midfielder who relies on movement and chance creation rather than pace, Palmer has established himself as a consistent threat from central and wide positions. Chelsea regard him as a cornerstone of their attack, having tied him to a nine-year contract in 2024. He made his senior England debut in November 2023 and scored a crucial equaliser for his country in the UEFA Euro 2024 final.
