Moisés Caicedo was born on 2 November 2001 in Santo Domingo, Ecuador, the youngest of ten siblings. He grew up playing on rough pitches in his neighbourhood before joining Ecuadorian Serie A side Independiente del Valle in 2016, where he developed from a forward into a midfielder. Despite a serious knee injury in 2017, he recovered and broke into the first team in October 2019, earning praise from his manager from almost his first training session.
Caicedo moved to Brighton & Hove Albion in February 2021 and, after a loan spell at Beerschot in Belgium, established himself as one of the better midfielders in the Premier League. He won Brighton's Player of the Season award in 2022–23, a campaign in which he attracted interest from several top clubs before eventually joining Chelsea in August 2023 for a reported fee of £100 million — a British transfer record at the time. At Chelsea, he went on to win the UEFA Conference League in 2024–25, scoring in the final against Real Betis, and was the only Chelsea player to start all 38 Premier League fixtures that season.
A composed, defensively minded midfielder who operates effectively on the right side of a midfield pivot, Caicedo contributes through interceptions, passing, and the ability to join counterattacks when needed. Chelsea see him as a key figure in their midfield structure.
Caicedo made his senior debut for Ecuador in October 2020 and has earned over 60 caps, featuring at the 2022 FIFA World Cup and two Copa América tournaments.
